From 1934, the 96D – “D” for décor – gave it its “Clous de Paris” bezel, which became one of the house’s signatures. Reference 3520 of 1965, then presented as “the thinnest water-resistant watch in the world”, appeared in 1972 as the 3520D, with a Clous de Paris bezel and Roman numerals.\nOur example, in 18-carat white gold – considerably less common than yellow gold – bears the numbers 1’369’xxx (movement) and 2’818’xxx (case), which date its production to around 1986. The case by Ateliers Réunis (Geneva Key No. 28) has retained its proportions, finishes and hallmarks. The white dial, with twelve black-painted Roman numerals, is perfectly understated beneath its blued steel baton hands. The manually wound caliber 177, extra-thin and bearing the Geneva Seal, has been serviced by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs perfectly. We present this watch on a black crocodile leather Patek Philippe strap with its rare original white gold pin buckle signed “AW” (André Wenger), and accompany it with a chocolate leather Patek Philippe pouch and our Steel Warranty Card.\nIn our view, this is the Calatrava reduced to its essentials, from which today’s Clous de Paris models descend directly.
