{"product_id":"rare-chronographe-universal-geneve-dato-compax-ref-22530-jumbo-en-acier-circa-1942-jamais-poli-wzyf","title":"Rare Universal Genève Dato-Compax Chronograph Ref. 22530 “Jumbo” in Steel, circa 1942 – Never Polished","description":"Universal Genève, a great interwar chronograph manufacture with calibers made in-house, launched the Dato-Compax around 1942, recognised as one of the very first wristwatch chronographs to incorporate the date: a slender red hand sweeps a calendar disc at 12 o’clock, with no aperture. Reference 22530, in steel, with caliber 287, is its most accomplished version in the 37.5 mm “Jumbo” format, with its characteristic faceted lugs.\nOur example, bearing serial number 877xxx and produced around 1942, is striking for its exceptional state of preservation. Its case has never been polished: the edges of the faceted lugs remain extremely crisp and the chamfered square pushers are intact. The original dial – a great rarity on these chronographs, which are often “refinished” – has developed a superb, even honey patina and retains its two tachymeter scales; the blued steel hands are original. The column-wheel caliber 287 has been fully restored by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs well. We present this watch on a new matte blue alligator strap hand-stitched by our craftsman, echoing the blued hands, and accompany it with our Steel Warranty Card.\nWithout any doubt the finest example of the Dato-Compax 22530 we have ever had the opportunity to see: a historic piece, in a state of preservation that makes it a true witness to the pinnacle of Universal Genève’s production.
