It established a vocabulary: a square case, a bezel with visible screws, a white dial with a railway minute track and Roman numerals, and blued steel sword-shaped hands.\nThe Santos-Dumont was reborn in 1973 within the Louis Cartier collection, as reference 78097: a 25 × 36 mm yellow gold case, the manually-wound Cartier caliber 78-1 and the “PARIS” dial, the most sought-after of all. It is the first Santos-Dumont of the modern era, and the closest to the original – Yves Saint Laurent owned one.\nOur example, produced circa 1973, is new: never worn, never polished. The mirror-polished chamfers are as crisp as the day they left the workshop, the hallmark and engravings are remarkably deep, the white dial is immaculate and the faceted blue cabochon is flawless. The caliber has nevertheless been fully serviced by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs perfectly. The watch is presented on its original “les Must de Cartier” strap in glossy black alligator, itself new, with its 18-carat yellow gold Cartier folding clasp, in its red “Must de Cartier” box, and is accompanied by our Steel Warranty Card.\nA “PARIS” Santos-Dumont just as it left the rue de la Paix half a century ago: new, complete, never worn.
