Produced between 1970 and 1976, the Omega Seamaster reference 168.050, nicknamed "Jumbo" because of its imposing and uncommon stainless steel case, is a rare and sought-after model among Omega collectors.
Its case shape, typical of the late 1960s and early 1970s, showcases the sunburst technique – this aesthetic finishing where metal is brushed from the center outwards in all directions – both on the case itself, as well as on the bezel, and even the case back bearing the Seamaster seahorse. This alternation of satin-brushed and mirror-polished surfaces, combined with the geometry of the case, gives this unusual watch a unique and very interesting presence on the wrist.
The silver dial, also sunburst-finished, features unique faceted markers and a date window at 3 o'clock. The closed outer minute track is reminiscent of a checkerboard, piano keys or of a rally's race flag. The luminescent material at the tips of the indexes and on the hands (tritium base) has developed a magnificent eggshell patina, warm and homogeneous. A hesalite (plexiglass) crystal tops this watch and undeniably contributes to its vintage charm.
The movement that powers this Seamaster is an Omega caliber 564, chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), of high quality and recognized precision. It is protected by an antimagnetic gold-plated brass dust cover, and, having undergone a complete overhaul by one of our watchmakers specializing in vintage calibers, runs perfectly.
The long, mint condition Omega stainless steel bracelet perfectly complements the sporty yet scientific look of the case.
We are pleased to present this rare Seamaster reference 168.050, produced in 1970 (serial number 302xxxxx), acquired directly from the family of its first owner. An example of rare quality, for Omega enthusiasts, lovers of the design of the turn of the 1970s, and those wishing to embark on the collection of unusual and fascinating vintage watches.

Condition

This Omega Seamaster reference 168.050 is preserved in exceptional condition, near new.
The case, with its specific angular geometry, retains all of its original proportions and finishes, including significant use of the sunburst technique. No significant shocks or scratches are to be reported. The edges, marking the alternation between brushed/satin-finished and mirror-polished surfaces, are remarkably clean. The case back is perfectly preserved, and bears the Omega Seamaster seahorse medallion.
The Omega-signed winding crown is integrated in the case design and is 100% original.
The superb sunburst silver dial, unique to this model, has not undergone any restoration and retains all of its dots of luminescent material which, like the hands, have developed a clean, warm and uniform patina. A tiny spot of superficial oxidation, barely perceptible, is present around 8 o'clock. The original hands are very well preserved, with some small traces of surface oxidation.
The hesalite (plexiglass) glass has been replaced anew.
The movement that powers this Seamaster is an Omega 564 caliber with date indication at 3 o'clock, chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), of high quality and with recognized precision.
