Particularly well preserved, and still accompanied by its original red Cartier box, accessories and even its original guarantee dated November 17, 1980 and signed by the retailer Perrin at Roissy airport outside Paris, our watch is a dream for any lover of the emblematic Cartier models of the 1970s.
We purchased this Cartier Baignoire from its first owner, and had it serviced by an experienced watchmaker to ensure it will function ideally for many years to come.

The Cartier Baignoire: An Oval Icon of Elegance

The story of the Baignoire began in 1912 when Louis Cartier designed an oval wristwatch as a gift for Russian Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, one of the Maison's most esteemed clients. Initially known simply as an « Oval Wristwatch », it wasn't until the 1970s that the design officially acquired the « Baignoire » moniker. The name is a nod to the VIP seats at the opera, where the wealthy sat in a special arrangement that resembled a bathtub.

Its cultural impact is significant. Throughout its history, it has graced the wrists of notable figures, including George Harrison of the Beatles and acclaimed actress Catherine Deneuve. In recent years, the watch has captured pop-culture status, seen on countless prominent celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, further cementing its place in contemporary fashion.

The model presented here, so-called « Baignoire Double Godrons », was originally sold in 1980 at the Paris airport. It perfectly embodies the essence of this iconic collection. Original « PARIS » dial and 18k yellow gold oval-shaped case, featuring a subtle curve that ergonomically conforms to the wrist and includes an extra concave band (known as a 'gadroon') around the crystal, creating the illusion of a stepped case that adds depth and visual interest.

The white dial, adorned with black painted Roman numerals and blued steel sword hands, exemplifies Cartier's signature aesthetic while offering perfect legibility. The manually-wound movement adds a touch of horological tradition to this elegant piece.

The watch comes on a red Cartier strap with its original 18k yellow gold folding clasp. It is furthermore still accompanied by its original red box and Cartier Guarantee card dated November 17th, 1980 by retailer Perrin of Roissy airport.
