Rare Cartier Tank Réversible/Reverso Large Size in Yellow Gold

The Cartier Tank Réversible, often nicknamed the “Cartier Reverso” in homage to the famous Jaeger-LeCoultre invention, is a model today extremely sought-after by collectors and lovers of elegant watches.
Produced in very limited numbers at the turn of the 1970s, mainly in yellow gold and even more rarely in white gold, 4 variants existed: the “single-sided” Réversibles, in both large and small sizes; and the “double-sided”, with 2 dials on either side of the rotating case, also manufactured in the 2 sizes. The example that we are pleased to present is large and single-sided, in that when the case rotates, a yellow gold back protects the watch from external attacks. The dial is signed “PARIS” at 6 o'clock and is in impeccable condition, featuring a bright white background, a closed railway minute track and black Roman numeral markers. The blued steel are in the purest Cartier tradition.
Several calibers were used by Cartier in the Tank Réversibles. The one making our watch beat, based on a Jaeger ébauche, is of particularly remarkable quality, with 18 jewels and fine finishings. Thoroughly serviced by an experienced watchmaker, this movement operates within the strictest tolerances.
The black lizard leather strap is signed Cartier, and is mounted between the case and the 18-carat yellow gold Cartier folding clasp, characteristic of the period, with the E.J. (Edmond Jaeger) hallmark.
A perfect combination of elegance and discreet sophistication, worn by icons such as Alain Delon, the Tank Réversible/Reverso has never been reissued by Cartier, and undoubtedly constitutes one of the best icons of the famous Parisian jeweler's watchmaking production in the 1970s.
