A superb, rare and daring Omega De Ville reference 8272 known as “Jeux d'Argent” or Emerald, designed by the famous jeweler Andrew Grima for Omega and produced in 1972.
The rectangular case with cut sides, the "emerald-cut" glass, the blue dial with vertical grooves, and the unique integrated bracelet with sculptural mesh are immediately recognizable, unique marks of Grima's work, an icon of jewelry and watch design in the 1970s whose clients included Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, and Jackie Kennedy!
The hand-wound mechanical movement, Omega caliber 625, has been completely overhauled by one of our watchmakers specializing in vintage calibers, and operates to the strictest tolerances.
A rare piece, born from an exceptional collaboration between Omega and the visionary Andrew Grima.

Detailed description

In the late 1960s, Omega enlisted the help of London-based jeweler Andrew Grima, a leading figure in post-war design nicknamed "the jeweler's jeweler." A renowned innovator known for his sculptural creations in textured gold and colored stones, Grima was also the official jeweler to the British Crown, and his jewelry adorned the likes of Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, and Jackie Kennedy. His avant-garde, bold, and resolutely modern style also appealed to icons such as Elton John and Ursula Andress.

From his collaboration with Omega, the experimental “Jeux d'Or” and “Jeux d'Argent” collections were born in 1970, as well as the aesthetic signature known as “Emerald”: a faceted cut glass reminiscent of the emerald cut, placed on geometric cases and bracelets crafted like true pieces of jewelry. Produced in small series in the early 1970s, these watches embody the encounter between Swiss watchmaking and the radical design of contemporary jewelry – and have since been regarded as among the most daring and sought-after De Ville watches.

The reference 8272 presented here concentrates the Grima codes: a rectangular case in 925‰ silver, an emerald-cut crystal with marked facets that capture the light, and a blue dial with vertical grooves, simply punctuated by minimalist indexes and baton hands. The whole is extended by an integrated silver bracelet with a dense circular mesh, fully articulated, with a spectacular “textile” pattern. The crown set with a blue cabochon underlines the jewelry character of this piece.

Mechanically, the 8272 houses a hand-wound Omega 625 caliber, behind a snap-back case lid. Its serial number 3525xxxx places its production in 1972, at the heart of this creative interlude.

Part design object, part jewelry watch, this De Ville "Jeux d'Argent" by Andrew Grima epitomizes the spirit of the seventies at Omega: formal audacity, bold materials (solid silver), colorful dials, and spectacular faceted glass. A rare and instantly recognizable piece, it bears witness to the unique encounter between fine Swiss watchmaking and one of the most visionary creators of his time.
