1964 Omega Seamaster Automatic Ref. 166.003 – “6-9-12 Art Déco”

The Omega Seamaster reference 166.003 was introduced in 1962 and our example (serial number 218xxxxx) was produced in 1964.
The elegant round steel case measures approximately 35 mm in diameter (42 mm from lug to lug) and features faceted lugs that remain in excellent condition, with clean edges. The winding crown is signed Omega. The screw-down case back is engraved with the crisp Seamaster seahorse logo.
The rare and remarkably balanced light silver dial with sunburst finish alternates between faceted applied markers and stylized “Art Déco” Arabic numerals at 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. At 3 o’clock, there is an aperture for the date indication. The luminescent material (tritium base) of the Dauphine hands and the indexes has developed a very beautiful, warm and uniform patina.
This Seamaster is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, the celebrated Omega Calibre 562, which has been completely overhauled by one of our experienced watchmakers and operates to the strictest tolerances.
Launched in 1948 to mark the Swiss manufacturer’s centenary, the Seamaster collection is the oldest Omega range still in production. Originally inspired by World War II military wristwatches, the Seamaster was designed as a watch that was both elegant and robust, for active personalities who wanted a watch that was equally suited to the city as it was to the ocean. Its iterations can be divided into two broad categories: extreme diving watches, designed for great depths; and dressier models, like the example we are presenting today.
Preserved in excellent condition, featuring an unusual dial and a reliable, fully serviced automatic movement, this Omega Seamaster is ideal for starting a collection of interesting vintage watches.

This Omega Seamaster reference 166.003 is preserved in excellent overall condition.
The steel case retains its original proportions and finishes, with sharp edges and clean facets.
The case back, bearing the typical seahorse logo of the Seamaster collection, is perfectly preserved.
The rare silver dial is in excellent condition, with dots of luminescent material (tritium base) having developed a beautiful warm and uniform patina;
The winding crown, signed Omega, is in very good condition.
The plastic/plexi crystal has been replaced with a new one for perfect clarity.
The self-winding mechanical movement, Omega caliber 562, has been completely overhauled by one of our experienced watchmakers and operates to the strictest tolerances.
The Amplitude° strap in navy blue suede calfskin is new, as is the steel pin buckle.
