Frequently Asked Questions
What watches does Amplitude buy?
Each watch requires a tailor-made assessment of its relevance with Amplitude’s positioning.
However, we are mostly interested in vintage and modern watches from the major Swiss brands — Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Longines, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega, Piaget and many more, well-preserved and fully authentic.
The presence of a watch's original documents and/or box is a plus, but is not essential.
We are not interested in inauthentic or counterfeit watches.
Is it possible to trade my watch for one offered by Amplitude?
If you are interested in a watch that we have, and would like to give us in trade another watch of lower, equivalent or higher value already in your collection, it is possible!
To find out more about trades, please consult our page dedicated to Trade-ins & Exchanges.
Do you also take watches on consignment?
Absolutely. Amplitude can take care of the sale of your collectible watch for you. Our community of customers, our means of communication, particularly on social networks, and more generally all of our marketing channels will be used to sell your watch at the best price and as quickly as possible.
We are also able to carry out, before it is put on sale, mechanical and aesthetic repairs and restorations on your watch if it requires it.
How is a consignment agreement set up?
The consignment is carried out according to the following steps:
You send us by e-mail, WhatsApp, or via the dedicated form on our website several good photographs of your watch, as well as all the information you have about it (presence or not of the original box and warranty, Extract of the Archives, provenance, service history, etc.).
We will contact you within 48 hours and give you the public sale price as well as the deposit price that we consider relevant.
If you wish to continue, we will contact our logistics partners to have the watch collected from the address of your choice.
Once we receive your watch, we physically examine it and confirm the final retail price and deposit price.
Once you've signed the consignment contract, we take professional photos of your watch, describe it in several languages, and publish it on our various sales channels – all at our expense.
Once the watch is sold, we will send you your payment as quickly as possible by bank transfer, once the buyers legal withdrawal period (14 days) has expired.
What are the costs associated with consignment?
Each watch requires a tailor-made assessment of its state of preservation, its desirability on the market, and the best ways to offer it to the public.
Most often, for watches whose retail price is less than €5,000, our commission amounts to 17.5%, 15% for watches between €5,000 and €15,000, 12.5% for watches between €15,000 and €30,000, and 10% above €30,000.
All costs of listing a watch not requiring repair (secure and insured shipping from your home to our office, inspection by ourselves and our watchmakers, taking of multiple professional photographs, technical and historical description, publication on our website and other marketing channels) are covered by Amplitude. You do not have to pay any fixed amount to list your watch for sale with us. If your watch is not sold at the end of the consignment period, we will return it to you by secure and insured carrier.
What is the difference between a "cash" sale and consignment?
In a simple sale (Amplitude buys your watch from you), you are sure to obtain a fair price and receive payment in just a few days.
Consignment sales have the advantage of “maximizing” the amount you can receive for your prestigious and collectible watch. Amplitude's commission is known in advance.
