Amazing and Rare 1981 Rolex Cellini/Midas ref. 5072 in Yellow Gold with Blue Mirror Dial – Unpolished

The asymmetrical Rolex Cellini models are the direct heirs of the King Midas collection, imagined by celebrated watch designer Gérald Genta who took inspiration from ancient Greece for the shape of both the watch itself and its original cardboard box.
Having started to appear in Rolex catalogues in the late 1970s, the asymmetrical Cellini models on leather straps were released in numerous variations – of dials, but also of case finishes, diamond settings, etc. – although all share a stylistic identity that is instantly recognizable and today particularly sought-after.
The rare reference 5072 has the particularity of presenting a fully mirror-polished case, which lends it remarkable elegance.
Our example is superbly preserved. It even retains its original green Rolex sticker on the case back, its typical asymmetrical Rolex strap in navy blue crocodile, its solid 18-carat yellow gold pin buckle, its hang tag with the watch's serial number, its outer box with 5072/8 sticker, and a magnificent blue “mirror” dial!
A rare opportunity to acquire a Rolex model that both stands out from the crowd and has a unique charm. The only example currently on the market.

This Rolex Cellini is preserved in superb overall condition, with an original blue dial that is free of stains and scratches and a case that has most likely never been polished, retaining its original angles and finishes. The original green Rolex sticker mentioning the reference 5072 is even still present on the case back, and the navy blue crocodile leather strap is also well preserved – clearly, this watch has been worn incredibly little since its birth some 40 years ago. The hand-wound mechanical movement has been fully overhauled by an experienced watchmaker and operates within the strictest tolerances.
