Superb example of the stainless steel Omega Speedmaster reference 3590.50 (case back 145.022), entirely original and matching in all its components, combining excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition, a very pronounced, warm and homogeneous patina, a dial variant particularly appreciated by collectors and "Moonwatch" enthusiasts, and a rare bracelet with unique vintage charm.
The Omega Speedmaster is undoubtedly one of the most famous watch designs of all time. In continuous production since 1957, its status as a watch worn on the Moon, during the Apollo 11 Mission in 1969, gave it its legendary status.
Produced circa 1990 (serial number 4824xxxx), our example is distinguished by its so-called “Long S & R” dial typical of the late 1980s, characterized by a specific typography of the word Speedmaster. The luminescent material of both the markers and hands (tritium base) has developed a superb orange patina, while the steel case with its iconic design and lyre lugs is remarkably well preserved.
It comes equipped with an Omega reference 1450 bracelet, often considered the most beautiful and comfortable of the “neo-vintage” Speedmaster bracelets, with its fully brushed/satin-finished rounded links. The 1450, which can also be reminiscent of the Rolex President bracelet, was only used by Omega from around 1980 to 1992, on the Speedmaster Moonphase ref. 345.0809 (circa 1985), the Speedmaster Automatic “Holy Grail”/Chuck Maddox ref. 376.0822 (circa 1987), and the Speedmaster Professional ref. 145.022/145.0022/3590.50 – as is the case here.
Under the screwed case back decorated with the Speedmaster seahorse, we find the celebrated Omega caliber 861, a hand-wound mechanical chronograph movement, directly derived from the heritage of the Speedmasters used in space.
A true collector's item, this Speedmaster combines rarity, attractive patina and excellent overall condition. An opportunity for lovers of watches steeped in history.

Detailed description

Condition

This Speedmaster is preserved in superb overall condition, and entirely original and matching throughout its components.
We will subsequently use the classifications established by Grégoire Rossier and Anthony Marquié in their authoritative book “Moonwatch Only: The Ultimate OMEGA Speedmaster Guide”.
The dial, nicknamed “Long S & Long R” by collectors, classification C3 – Tall & Open S, is superb, and the luminescent material (tritium base) of the markers and hands, classification C2 – Baton, Flat, has developed an amazing orange patina, very warm and uniform.
The case, classification B1, retains original proportions and finishes, alternating brushed/satin-finished and mirror-polished surfaces.
The steel and black resin bezel, base 500 tachymeter, classification B2 – Dot Close to 70, Narrow C, is original, sought after and in perfect condition. Its tight “TACHYMETRE” inscriptions without an accent on the E are more appreciated by Speedmaster collectors than later versions.
The rare and sought-after Omega 1450 bracelet in steel, fully satin-finished, is in excellent condition and does not suffer from any stretch. Its full end links, no. 808, correspond to the model and the period. The clasp retains its deep and clean engravings.
The winding crown, A3 classification – Wide Ω with 24 teeth, is well preserved and its Omega logo is defined.
The chronograph pushers, classification 4 – Wide & Tall, are in excellent condition.
The mechanical hand-wound movement, the Omega caliber 861 with yellow finish and 17 jewels, classification B3, is in excellent condition and, having been serviced by one of our watchmakers specializing in vintage calibres, operates to the strictest tolerances. The original dust cover is in perfect condition. The screw-down case back, classification C5 – Q Short Tail, is marked “KB” and engraved with the reference 145.022.
A fantastic example.
