Iconic and timeless Cartier Santos Carrée watch in steel with a rare and sought-after original red/burgundy dial called "Burgundy Dial", produced circa 1985.
The model's characteristic case alternates between mirror-polished/shiny and brushed/satin-finished surfaces. The visual contrast is also provided by the alternation between the colors steel (of the case, the bezel, the original sword hands and the bracelet), red (of the dial, the cabochon on the octagonal crown, and the engravings on the back), and the small golden touches of the inscriptions on the dial - a design that is recognizable among thousands.
The self-winding mechanical movement has been completely overhauled by one of our experienced watchmakers.
Preserved in excellent overall condition and featuring the famous “Red/Burgundy” dial, this Santos Carrée even retains almost all of the original red enamel on its caseback.

The Cartier Santos is an iconic model that, since its creation in the early 20th century, has marked the history of watchmaking as one of the first men's wristwatches. This particular model, reference 2960, is a modern reinterpretation of this icon, combining classic elegance with contemporary robustness. Produced in the 1980s and 1990s, this version stands out for its timeless design, with a steel case and bracelet, and above all, its rare and sought-after red/burgundy dial called "Burgundy Dial".

The square steel case, an ideal size for most wrists, features a mirror-polished bezel and chamfers, contrasting elegantly with the satin-brushed surfaces of the case and bracelet. This design thus combines a certain “industrial”, angular aesthetic with a refinement very typical of Cartier. The red, minimalist dial features gold-coloured inscriptions and is topped with steel sword hands. The octagonal winding crown with clean sides is adorned with a red cabochon – found only on the versions with a burgundy dial.

The original bracelet, also in steel with visible screws and again very angular/straight is another major asset of this piece. It fits the wrist perfectly and demonstrates Cartier's attention to both comfort and design. Its integrated folding clasp ensures maximum security while maintaining the bracelet's refined aesthetic.

This Cartier Santos reference 2960 is powered by an automatic movement. The latter has been fully serviced by one of our watchmakers and operates to the strictest tolerances, making this watch perfect for everyday wear as well as special occasions. Unusually for a model of this age, the inscriptions on the case back still retain almost all of the original red enamel, a detail appreciated by collectors for its rarity, its charm, and as a testimony to the very good state of preservation of the watch.

This Cartier Santos Carrée is preserved in excellent overall condition.
The original red dial, signed "SWISS" at 6 o'clock and not "SWISS MADE" like the replacement dials, shows cracks when exposed to strong and direct lighting. Under normal conditions, these cracks are not noticeable. The inscriptions at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock are perfectly preserved and clear.
The steel case is superb. It retains its original proportions and finishes, alternating between matte/brushed and shiny surfaces. The engravings on the back of the caseback are perfectly legible, including the serial number. Almost all of the original red enamel is preserved.
The red cabochon on the winding crown, specific to this model, is intact.

The bracelet has no weaknesses, has never been restored, and articulates perfectly.
