Launched in 1952, the Seamaster Calendar collection holds a special place in Omega's history: it was the first line from the Biel-based manufacturer to integrate a calendar complication into an automatic, waterproof watch. The Seamaster, launched in 1948, was already intended to be a versatile watch, capable of accompanying its owner in both formal settings and more sporty conditions. With the addition of the calendar window, Omega reinforced this utilitarian vocation and laid the foundations for a design that would endure for decades.

The reference 2849, produced by Omega in all its variations between 1956 and 1962, perfectly illustrates this philosophy. With its 34.5 mm diameter and its steel case with chamfered lugs, it combines balance and robustness. The case back bears the inscriptions "Seamaster" and "Waterproof", symbols of a model designed to stand the test of time.

At the heart of the watch beats the automatic caliber 503, an evolution of the bumper caliber 355, now equipped with a bidirectional central rotor. Produced between 1955 and 1962, it is distinguished by its precision and reliability. The arrangement with central seconds and instantaneous date at 3 o'clock offered, at the time, a modern and appreciated functionality.

The example we are presenting, made in 1958, is captivating for its superb patina. Its silver dial has become a unique speckled beige, a "tropicalization" of rare warmth, without altering either the inscriptions or the readability. The dauphine hands and applied indexes retain their original brilliance. The remarkably preserved case retains its sharp edges and original proportions.

This Omega Seamaster Calendar reference 2849-5 SC from 1958 is preserved in superb overall condition.
The dial's unique patina is, of course, the feature that drew our attention to this watch. In fact, despite a particularly pronounced "tropicalization," none of the dial's inscriptions are damaged, all the indexes are in perfect condition, and the minute track is complete. The steel Dauphine hands are also very well preserved.
The steel case is preserved in remarkable condition, and has likely only been polished once since its birth almost 70 years ago. The chamfers on the four lugs are wide and perfectly defined. The "Seamaster" and "Waterproof" inscriptions on the clip-on caseback are perfectly clear.
The original four-notch winding crown is in excellent condition and properly features the prominent Ω logo.
We chose to present this Seamaster Calendar on a vintage Omega strap in orange-brown lizard leather, which, in our opinion, nicely recalls the texture and patina of the dial.
The self-winding mechanical movement, a copper-colored Omega caliber 503 with central seconds and date window at 3 o'clock, has been completely overhauled by a watchmaker specializing in vintage calibers, and operates to the strictest tolerances.
