Superb example of Rolex GMT-Master II, reference 16710, produced in 2000 (serial number P35xxxx) and sold in 2001.
The reference 16710 has all the advantages of modern Rolex models: scratch-resistant sapphire crystals, durable steel, high water resistance, ultra-reliable, precise and robust movements, quick-set date function, and solid bracelets.
This GMT-Master II struck us with its near-new condition. The remarkably strong case has almost certainly never been polished since this watch was born 25 years ago, and features extremely clear demarcations between the satin-brushed/matte and mirror-polished surfaces, clean chamfers, and the presence – a rare fact! – of the original green Rolex sticker on the caseback.
The steel Rolex Oyster bracelet, reference 78790A with solid end links, buckle code DE1 (production in January 2001), is complete (12 links), in perfect condition, and the stamped crown on the buckle is precise.
The self-winding mechanical movement, superlative chronometer-certified Rolex caliber 3185, operates to the strictest tolerances.
This watch is presented "Full Set", with its original accessories: its original "punched" Rolex warranty document recording an initial sale on July 4, 2001 at Artland Watch Co., Ltd, an official Rolex retailer in Hong Kong (China), its green and gold Rolex box, its original bezel protector, its red superlative chronometer seal, its original tag/label mentioning the watch's serial number, and finally the Amplitude° Steel Warranty Card.
An ideal example, perfect for both a demanding collector and for everyday wear.

READ MORE ABOUT THE MODEL

The Rolex GMT-Master: Combining Innovation, Sportiness and the Elegance of Travel

Introduced in 1954, the Rolex GMT-Master was the result of a collaboration between Rolex and Pan American World Airways, one of the leading airlines of the time. It was designed to meet the needs of airline pilots who, with the rise of transcontinental air travel, needed a watch capable of managing several time zones simultaneously. This emblematic model quickly gained in popularity, not only among aviators, but also among travellers and professionals around the world.

Its innovative multi-time-zone display is achieved by an additional 24-hour hand that completes one revolution of the dial once every 24 hours, as well as a 24-hour graduated rotating bezel. This feature allows users to simultaneously read the time in two different time zones – and even, in the case of the most modern models, in three.

Over the decades, the GMT-Master has undergone numerous evolutions, both technical and stylistic. The introduction of the GMT-Master II in 1983 marked the advent of the ability to set the hour hand independently of the 24-hour hand. This function further enhanced the watch's versatility, allowing GMT wearers to easily consult the time in three time zones.

Aesthetically, the GMT-Master is famous for its coloured bezels, the most celebrated being the ‘Pepsi’ (blue and red), the ‘Coke’ (red and black) and the ‘Batman’ (blue and black), which are not only practical but also highly attractive. These bold designs, combined with Rolex's robustness and reliability, have made the GMT-Master a must-have in the world of prestige and collector's watches.

Technically, the GMT-Master has always been equipped with high-precision self-winding mechanical movements and is designed to withstand the pressures of frequent air travel.

The main differences between the GMT-Master references (I and II) concern the glass (plexiglass or sapphire), the setting of the 24-hour hand (independent or not), the type of dial (lacquered, matte or shiny with hour markers surrounded by white gold) and the material of the case, bezel and bracelet (stainless steel, all-gold, gold and steel). The main references for steel are, in the order of their introduction: 6542, 1675, 16750, 16700, 16760, 16710, 116710, and 126710.

Today, the Rolex GMT-Master remains one of the most sought-after and respected watches in the world, symbolising adventure and prestige. It has also been worn by many influential personalities and celebrities over the years, contributing greatly to its iconic status. These include Che Guevara, Howard Hughes, Tom Selleck, Marlon Brando, Clint Eastwood, John Travolta and Pablo Picasso. Today, it continues to appeal to new generations of international professionals and urban explorers, remaining a benchmark in traveller's watches, with a rich history and unrivalled functionality.
