The introduction of the “Grande Taille” (Large Size, in French) in 1991, under the leadership of Günter Blümlein, marked a turning point in the history of the Reverso. These ideal dimensions – 26 × 42 mm, respecting the golden ratio – served a dual purpose: to adapt to contemporary tastes, and accommodate the most ambitious complications. This size became Jaeger-LeCoultre’s creative laboratory, paving the way for the introduction, in the Reverso line, of the tourbillon (1993), the minute repeater (1994), the retrograde chronograph (1996) and the perpetual calendar (2000).
This pre-2006 reference 270.8.62 is distinguished by its flat two-tone silver dial. The painted Arabic numeral hour markers and blued hands perpetuate the aesthetic codes of 1931. At the heart of the piece beats the manufacture caliber 822 – 134 components assembled with the technical mastery that earned Jaeger-LeCoultre the nickname “the watchmaker of watchmakers”. Ultra-thin at 2.94 mm thick, it offers 45 hours of autonomy while preserving its elegant profile.
The reversing mechanism patented by René-Alfred Chauvot operates with remarkable fluidity. The mirror-polished side remains blank, ready for possible personalization. The example we offer, preserved in excellent aesthetic condition and fully serviced by our watchmakers, retains its original double-folding steel clasp.
This Reverso Grande Taille embodies the perfect balance sought by connoisseurs – neither a nostalgic remake nor an excessive creation, but the natural evolution of an icon, particularly sought after today for its perfect proportions and exceptional in-house movement.

Detailed description

The introduction of the “Grande Taille” marks a turning point in the modern history of the Art Déco icon that is the Reverso. It was in 1991, under the leadership of Günter Blümlein, that the Grande Taille was born. These new dimensions – 26 × 42 mm – fulfilled a dual objective: to adapt to contemporary tastes, and to accommodate ambitious complications in a rectangular case – a considerable technical challenge. The Grande Taille became Jaeger-LeCoultre’s creative laboratory. It paved the way for the introduction of most prestigious complications in the Reverso line: tourbillon (1993), minute repeater (1994), retrograde chronograph (1996), perpetual calendar (2000). This reference was notably worn by Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins.

The case dimensions respect the golden ratio and offer ideal proportions for a large majority of men's wrists. This example of the reference 270.8.62 belongs to the pre-2006 generation, recognizable by its flat two-tone silver dial. The painted Arabic numeral indexes and blued hands perpetuate the aesthetic codes of 1931.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 822 powers this piece. A manufacture movement par excellence, its 134 components illustrate the technical mastery of Jaeger-LeCoultre, nicknamed "the watchmaker of watchmakers." At only 2.94 mm thick, it maintains the elegant profile while offering 45 hours of autonomy. The Côtes de Genève finishes, visible by turning the case over, demonstrate the care taken even in hidden parts.

The reversing mechanism, patented by René-Alfred Chauvot in 1931, operates perfectly smoothly. The mirror-polished reverse side offers that characteristic blank surface, ready for possible customization – a tradition that has been perpetuated since the model's origins.

The example we are offering, preserved in excellent aesthetic condition, has also undergone a complete overhaul by our watchmakers. The original steel double-folding clasp guarantees day-to-day security and comfort. This Reverso embodies the perfect balance sought by connoisseurs – large enough to be contemporary, classic enough to transcend eras.

Collectors consider the “Grande Taille” to be the quintessential Reverso – neither a nostalgic remake nor an over-the-top modern creation, but the natural evolution of an icon. Today, this variant is particularly sought after on the market for its ideal proportions, timelessness, elegance, and the quality of its in-house movement.
