Rare and interesting 1968 Omega Seamaster Chronometer 167.070

Featuring a chronometer-certified self-winding movement from the Omega 500 calibre series, a simple, angular case and an Omega Milanese mesh steel bracelet, this is a versatile vintage model, perfect for everyday wear.

The Seamaster 167.070 is an unusual reference, which has attracted the interest of Omega collectors and specialists: it combines a case known on watches from the Genève collection, with a chronometer-certified movement usually present on Constellations, what’s more, with a dial signed Seamaster!

Over the years, the experts community, initially cautious, researched it, studied the serial numbers, and managed to authenticate this particular model, concluding that the curious 167.070 is the only Seamaster to be powered by Caliber 551.

We took the time to compare the serial number of our example with all the ones compiled by specialists (26283686, 26287846, 26303019, 26303260, 26303333, 26303336, 26303344, 26303581, 26303621), and discovered that our watch, n°26283506, is the earliest one out of all the studied production!

The case back also corresponds to what collectors have identified as original: marked CB (the case manufacturer) and with double numbering 165.070 and 167.070, its presence reinforces the feeling that this watch has gone through the decades just as it was born almost 60 years ago.

The case, almost certainly never polished since the birth of this watch almost 60 years ago, is preserved in excellent condition, with sharp angles and defined surfaces. The “WATERPROOF” engraving on the caseback is deep and crisp. The original Omega signed crown has no dents. Superficial micro-scratches which in no way alter the pleasure of wearing are visible throughout the case and contribute to the “vintage” charm of this beautiful and rare Omega Seamaster.
The silver dial is in near new condition, and the luminescent material (tritium base) of the markers and hands has developed a beautiful homogeneous vanilla patina.
The Omega bracelet, reference 2029, shows no deformation and only a few light surface scratches are visible on the folding clasp.
