The introduction of the “Grande Taille” in 1991, under the impetus of Günter Blümlein, marked a turning point in the history of the Reverso. Its ideal dimensions – 26 × 42 mm respecting the golden ratio – addressed a twofold objective: to suit contemporary tastes and to accommodate the most ambitious complications. This size became Jaeger-LeCoultre’s creative laboratory, paving the way for the tourbillon (1993), the minute repeater (1994), the retrograde chronograph (1996) and the perpetual calendar (2000).
This reference 270.8.62 stands out for its two-tone silver flat dial. The painted Arabic numerals and blued hands perpetuate the aesthetic codes of 1931. At the heart of the piece beats the in-house caliber 822 – 134 components assembled with the technical mastery that earns Jaeger-LeCoultre the nickname “the watchmaker’s watchmaker”. Ultra-thin at 2.94 mm, it provides 45 hours of power reserve while preserving the elegance of the profile.
The reversing mechanism patented by René-Alfred Chauvot operates with remarkable fluidity. The mirror-polished reverse remains blank, ready for any future personalisation. The example offered, preserved in excellent aesthetic condition and fully serviced by our watchmakers, is presented with a Jaeger-LeCoultre steel pin buckle and a navy blue crocodile-pattern leather strap, echoing the sword-shaped hands in blued steel.
This Reverso Grande Taille embodies the balance sought by connoisseurs – neither nostalgic remake nor overstated creation, but the natural evolution of an icon, particularly sought-after today for its perfect proportions and its in-house movement.

Detailed description

The introduction of the “Grande Taille” marks a turning point in the modern history of the Art Deco icon that is the Reverso. It was in 1991, under the impetus of Günter Blümlein, that the Grande Taille was born. These new dimensions – 26 × 42 mm – address a twofold objective: to suit contemporary tastes, and to accommodate ambitious complications within a rectangular case – a considerable technical challenge. The Grande Taille became Jaeger-LeCoultre’s creative laboratory. It paved the way for the most prestigious complications: tourbillon (1993), minute repeater (1994), retrograde chronograph (1996), perpetual calendar (2000). This reference was notably worn by Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins.

The dimensions of the case respect the golden ratio and offer ideal proportions for a great majority of male wrists. This example of the reference 270.8.62 belongs to the pre-2006 generation, recognisable by its two-tone silver flat dial. The painted Arabic numerals and blued hands perpetuate the aesthetic codes of 1931.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 822 powers this piece. A in-house movement par excellence, its 134 components illustrate the technical mastery of Jaeger-LeCoultre, nicknamed “the watchmaker’s watchmaker”. At only 2.94 mm thick, it maintains the elegant profile while offering 45 hours of power reserve. The Côtes de Genève finishes, visible by turning the case over, attest to the care given even to the hidden parts.

The reversing mechanism, patented by René-Alfred Chauvot in 1931, operates entirely smoothly. The mirror-polished reverse offers this characteristic blank surface, ready to receive any future personalisation – a tradition perpetuated since the origins of the model.

The example we are offering, preserved in excellent aesthetic condition, has moreover undergone a complete service by our watchmakers. It is presented with a Jaeger-LeCoultre steel pin buckle and a navy blue crocodile-pattern leather strap, echoing the sword-shaped hands in blued steel.

Collectors regard the “Grande Taille” as the quintessence of the Reverso – neither nostalgic remake nor overstated modern creation, but the natural evolution of an icon. Today, this variant is particularly sought-after on the market for its ideal proportions, its timelessness, its elegance, and the quality of its in-house movement.
