This superb Rolex Oyster Perpetual 31 in steel, a reference 77080 produced (serial number P21xxxx) in 2000, features a smooth steel bezel, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, an exceptionally reliable and accurate automatic-winding movement, and an elegant, understated and desirable black dial known as “Explorer 3-6-9”, named for the alternating baton indices and applied white gold Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock.
In flawless aesthetic and mechanical condition, and entirely original down to the bracelet clasp code, this example embodies Rolex’s very DNA: efficiency of line, purity and elegance, durability, mechanical reliability and exemplary wearing comfort. This Rolex Oyster Perpetual 31 is preserved in flawless overall condition.
The stainless steel case retains its original proportions and finishes, alternating between brushed/satin-finished surfaces and mirror-polished sides.
The black “Explorer 3-6-9” dial, so named for the alternating baton indices and applied Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, is in excellent condition.
The mechanical automatic-winding movement, Rolex caliber 2230 certified Superlative Chronometer, was fully serviced before the watch went on sale by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs within the strictest tolerances.
The winding crown is in flawless condition.
The original Rolex “semi-shielded” Oyster bracelet in steel, reference 78350/17, end-links 551 B, clasp code DE1 (production in January 2001) is very well preserved, with no slack. The Rolex Crown stamped on the clasp is crisp.
