Rare 1969 Longines Ultra-Chron Automatic 7828-1 in Yellow Gold

Very rare and superb Longines wristwatch called the “Ultra-Chron”, in 18-carat yellow gold, reference 7828-1, produced in 1969 – information which was confirmed to us by the Longines Heritage department.
The very beautiful brown dial contrasts perfectly with the yellow gold of the case. The high frequency movement, revolutionary at the time of its introduction, has recently been overhauled and runs perfectly.
In short, an elegant, technically innovative watch, preserved in excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition – a piece for the enlightened enthusiast.

The Longines Ultra-Chron represents an important milestone in the history of watchmaking, marking Longines' continued commitment to technical innovation and precision. Launched in 1967, to mark the brand's centenary, this watch is distinguished by its high-frequency movement, an advanced technical feature that aimed to provide unrivaled precision at the time.

At the heart of the Ultra-Chron lies a revolutionary movement, the chronometer-certified Longines caliber 431, operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. This frequency, considerably higher than the 19,800, 21,600 and sometimes 28,800 A/h of the time, made it possible to significantly reduce the effects of external disturbances on the precision of the watch, thus offering increased precision even under varied use conditions. The Ultra-Chron movement was so precise that Longines guaranteed it an accuracy of ±5 seconds/day, a feat at the time of its release.

The aesthetic of the Ultra-Chron remains faithful to Longines' spirit, combining classic elegance and optimal readability. The 18k yellow gold case is sturdy and polished, with the lugs featuring sharp chamfered corners, reflecting a style that is both sporty and refined. The dial is very readable, with hour markers and hands reflecting the facets seen on the case.

We had the pleasure of receiving confirmation of the production of this watch in 1969, information communicated by the Heritage department of the Compagnie des Montres Longines Francillon SA, which was based on the serial numbers 15 '566'xxx (box) and 50'322'xxx (movement) which we had communicated.

The Longines Ultra-Chron thus continues to stand the test of time and to be coveted by connoisseurs, recognized for its rarity, extreme precision and timeless design, while remaining accessible.

Excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition.
The case retains very sharp angles, the characteristic Ultra-Chron medallion on the gold caseback is deep, crisp and retains its sandblasted appearance.
The original brown “confetti” crosshair dial is perfectly preserved.
Having been fully serviced by one of our vintage watchmakers, the chronometric performance of this watch is excellent.
During this process, the acrylic crystal and the leather strap were also replaced with new ones.
