1952 Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6084 “Honeycomb OCC Red Writing Semi-Bubbleback”

Superb Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 6084 in 18K yellow gold produced in 1952, featuring an extremely rare original "Honeycomb" dial, with the inscription "Officially Certified Chronometer" (OCC) including "Officially" in red. This text is a rare detail that underlines the precision and superior quality recognized by chronometry tests, and increases both the visual appeal of the watch and its value for collectors.
Indeed, the textured dials produced by Rolex in the 1950s, much less common than the simpler, smooth models, often got damaged over time, which explains the large proportion of reprinted/restored dials on the market. Savvy collectors reject these alterations, and instead seek out the example that is both original and well preserved. This is exactly what we are talking about here: a rare dial, never modified or restored since its birth over 70 years ago, and which has remained in impeccable condition.
The luminescent material of the applied indexes and hands (radium base) is ideally preserved and has developed a magnificent homogeneous patina.
The 18 carat yellow gold case, topped with a domed plexiglass crystal (replaced anew perfect readability), measures 34mm in diameter and features a characteristic domed screw-down caseback, nicknamed “Semi-Bubbleback” or “Ovettone”. The lugs are drilled on one side only – a specific feature of the model.
The Super Oyster crown, which does not screw down, typical of the period and which has become very rare because they were systematically replaced during services, is still present on our watch and perfectly preserved.
The automatic movement, Rolex caliber 645 certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute, has been completely overhauled by an experienced watchmaker and runs remarkably well.
The Oyster Perpetual reference 6084 is one of a handful of models that marked the transition between the famous Bubblebacks and the Datejusts and Day-Dates that came later.

This 1952 Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 6084 is preserved in superb overall condition.
The case retains its original proportions and has not been subject to bas polishing. The engravings on the inside of the case back are deep and crisp.
The self-winding mechanical movement, Rolex caliber 645 certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute, has been completely overhauled by an experienced watchmaker and runs remarkably well.
The rare original “Rolex Super Oyster” winding crown is ideally preserved.
Above all, the textured honeycomb dial, entirely original and unrestored, retains all its splendor, with all of its inscriptions perfectly legible, including the 3 OCC lines at 6 o'clock with OFFICIALLY in red. While it has of course developed a slight patina and micro-colorations over time, this is the most beautiful example of a light Honeycomb dial from the 1950s that we have ever seen.
