1962 Omega Constellation “Pie-Pan Dog Leg” 14902 SC-61

Elegant, timeless and daring Omega Constellation in steel, reference 14902 SC-61, produced in 1962.
All-original and remarkably well preserved since its birth over 60 years ago, this self-winding watch features a beautiful “Pie-Pan” dial and a case with stylized lugs, dubbed “Dog Leg”.

If the Constellation line is today somewhat overshadowed by the models in the Speedmaster and Seamaster families, this remarkable Omega collection was once the flagship of the Swiss watchmaking giant.

Introduced in 1952, the Omega Constellation was originally considered one of the most luxurious and precise ranges of watches offered by the brand. The fact that these models have always been chronometer certified adds to their prestige and desirability.

Among the many Constellation variants produced over the decades, the most famous are those which feature the so-called “Pie-Pan” dials, i.e. with plunging edges, from the 1950s and 1960s. Going further than the unmistakable depth created by the “pie-pan” effect, these watches present magnificent variations of markers and dial details which have made them prized by enlightened collectors as well as enthusiasts with a budding passion.

Our example, reference 14902 SC-61, was produced in 1962 and has been remarkably well preserved since. Its stylized lugs, dubbed “Dog Legs” by enthusiasts, characterize it, and give an angular, almost sculptural appearance to this watch. The winding crown is signed Omega, and the medallion engraved on the case back illustrates the Geneva Observatory. The non-luminous silver dial benefits from the charm of the “Pie-Pan” and features a useful date window at 3 o'clock. Recently serviced and running to perfection, this watch is ideal to start a vintage collection and for everyday wear.

The case is preserved in very good overall condition, with well-defined edges and chamfers. The delineations between satin-finished and mirror-polished surfaces are sharp.
The beautiful silver “Pie-Pan” dial is original, has not been subject to any restoration, and all its original inscriptions are present. Slight marks of oxidation on the dial are visible under a magnifying glass but do not affect the readability or vintage charm of this Omega.
The mechanical self-winding movement, Omega caliber 561, has been completely overhauled by one of our watchmakers and runs within the strictest tolerances, with an impeccable timegrapher reading: 280° amplitude, ± 0 second/day, and 0.0 ms beat error. During this service, the plexiglass crystal was also replaced anew for perfect transparency.
The sky blue suede leather strap is new, as is the pin buckle that accompanies it.
