Launched in 1961, the Patek Philippe reference 3445 is the first serially-produced Calatrava to incorporate an automatic movement with date display, all in a waterproof case with a screw-down back.
Our model, produced around 1968 and bearing the specific reference 3445/6, is distinguished by a superb integrated white gold bracelet featuring the same so-called “Florentine” micro-texture as the case, a masterpiece by Geneva chain maker Jean-Pierre Ecoffey. The 35 mm round case, manufactured by the workshops of Antoine Gerlach (Geneva Key hallmark no. 4), houses the legendary caliber 27-460M, an automatic movement bearing the Double Geneva Seal, decorated in the purest Patek Philippe tradition and housing a bidirectional rotor in solid gold.
A rare and sophisticated watch, today highly sought after by collectors for its ability to combine the best technical innovations of the 1960s, the watchmaking excellence of Patek Philippe, and a style that is both opulent and immensely elegant.

Detailed description

The reference 3445, launched in 1961 and produced until the early 1980s, occupies a unique place in the history of Patek Philippe. A true pioneer, it was the first serially-produced Calatrava model to incorporate an automatic movement with a date display, all housed in a waterproof case closed by a 10-sided screw-down case back.

The specific reference 3445/6 is distinguished by its integrated 18-carat gold bracelet with a so-called "Florentine" micro-texture, a refined finish that testifies to the exceptional craftsmanship of Patek Philippe and Jean-Pierre Ecoffey, the illustrious Geneva "chaîniste" (or chain maker), the exceptional artisans behind the most beautiful gold watch bracelets of the 20th century. The case, also in white gold and with a diameter of 35 mm, is remarkably elegant, manufactured by the workshops of Antoine Gerlach (Geneva Key hallmark no. 4), renowned for having created the first cases of the historic Calatravas, notably those of the reference 96 starting in 1932.

The reference 3445 is today celebrated and sought after by collectors for its exterior appeal, of course, but also for the beating heart it contains. Indeed, at the core of this Calatrava beats the caliber 27-460M, an evolution of the legendary automatic caliber 12-600 AT. Equipped with a central solid gold rotor, this bidirectional winding movement operates at a frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour. Adjusted in 5 positions and to temperature, it embodies the highest standards of precision and reliability, as evidenced by the two Geneva Seals that adorn it, a guarantee of impeccable finishing and cutting-edge chronometry. The movement features Côtes de Genève decoration, an emblem of traditional watchmaking expertise. The letter "M" at the end of the caliber reference describes the "mono-date" complication, i.e. the date display in an aperture at 3 o'clock – as we have seen, a first. Equipped with 37 jewels, it is one of the most beautiful calibers we have ever seen.

An exceptional watch, combining the best technical innovations of the 1960s with a style that is both opulent and immensely and timelessly elegant.

Condition

This Calatrava reference 3445/6 in white gold is presented in very good overall condition.
The original silver dial is in excellent condition, with perfect perlage and no missing inscriptions. The baton markers and hands are remarkably preserved.
The round case has kept all its original textures, including the cross-hatched pattern on the bezel. The gold hallmark (Helvetia) on the right side of the caseband is visible and sharp.
The decagonal case back retains its original circular satin finish and its 10 sides are perfectly preserved. Inside, all the engravings are intact.
The crown bearing the Calatrava Cross is in excellent condition.
The integrated white gold bracelet is inimitable in its suppleness. Its surface texture remains perfectly clean, and has likely never been polished. Repeated wearing may have caused some slight twisting of the bracelet, without it being noticeable once the watch is put on the wrist. The jewelry clasp is in very good condition, with perfectly clean engravings and hallmarks on the inside and an ideally preserved Calatrava Cross medallion on the outside.
The superb and prestigious self-winding mechanical movement, Patek Philippe caliber 27-460M bearing the Double Geneva Seal and comprising 37 jewels, is in excellent condition. Fully serviced by an experienced watchmaker, it operates to the strictest tolerances.
