1969 Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 1002 in Yellow Gold and Steel – Superb Mosaic/Shantung Taupe dial

Produced in 1969 (serial number 204xxxx), this rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual features a 34mm diameter steel and yellow gold Oyster case, a smooth yellow gold bezel, a magnificent two-tone folded links Oyster bracelet and is powered by the celebrated and reliable Rolex caliber 1570, which is also found in the professional models of the brand.
Its perfectly preserved taupe-Havana dial features an impressive contrasting tiled texture, nicknamed “Mosaic” or “Shantung” by collectors, which is particularly rare on Oyster Perpetual models. Its luminescent hour markers (tritium base), all whole and round, have developed a magnificent patina, as have the straight-tipped gold hands.
Its automatic movement, a chronometer-certified Rolex caliber 1570, is renowned for its reliability and has undergone a complete overhaul. It operates to the strictest tolerances.
In short, this is a very pure vintage Rolex with amazing charm and warmth reinforced by the dual presence of yellow gold and steel, which will suit both the enlightened amateur wishing to wear it on a daily basis and the collector fascinated by its dial, perfectly preserved almost 60 years after its birth.

The stainless steel case is very well preserved and the demarcations between the satin-finished and mirror-polished surfaces are clear. The case back, engraved I.69 for a production in the 1st quarter of 1969 is original to the watch and in very good condition. The smooth yellow gold bezel is perfectly preserved and gives the watch a special charm. The reference and serial number engravings between the lugs are perfectly clear.
The superb textured/tiled dial, so-called "Mosaic" or "Shantung", in taupe-brown color is original, has not been restored, is perfectly preserved, and the luminescent material (tritium base) of the indexes and hands has developed a magnificent uniform patina.
The rare Rolex Oyster folded links bracelet in yellow gold and steel, reference 7235/19 with 267 end links is in very good condition and shows no stretch.
The self-winding mechanical movement, z chronometer-certified Rolex caliber 1570, has been completely overhauled by one of our watchmakers familiar with vintage Rolex movements and operates to the strictest tolerances, with excellent readings on the professional timegrapher.
