1969 Tudor Date-Day Ref. 7017/0 in Steel – Taupe Dial

The Tudor Oyster Prince Date-Day reference 7017/0 is the steel-cased response to the iconic Rolex Day-Date, exclusively produced in gold and platinum, and known as “the President’s watch” – except that, with its 38 mm diameter, it surpasses the 36 mm Rolex, earning it the nickname “Jumbo” among collectors.
Launched in the late 1960s, this reference coincides with Tudor’s adoption of the shield emblem in place of the historic Tudor rose. As was traditional at Tudor during this period, the water-resistant Oyster case and the winding crown are made and signed by Rolex, Tudor’s “elder sister” and parent company.
Our example, produced in 1969 (serial number 695xxx), stands out for its superb slate grey/taupe dial, on which the luminous material (tritium-based) at the tips of the applied stick markers has developed a beautiful warm, uniform and pronounced patina.
The days are displayed in an aperture at 12 o’clock, while the date sits at 3 o’clock, beneath the cyclops lens of the Plexiglas crystal.
The bracelet is, as expected on these models, a vintage Rolex Oyster folded-links steel bracelet, reference 7836, 382 end links.
The automatic mechanical movement, Tudor caliber 1895 based on the Adolph Schild 1895, has been serviced by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs very well.

This Tudor Oyster Prince Date-Day is preserved in excellent overall condition.
The 38 mm steel case is in fine shape, and all the inscriptions on the caseback remain deep and clearly legible.
The superb slate grey/taupe dial is the defining trait of this watch. Its colour, probably the rarest of the reference 7017 production, responds beautifully to the luminous material (tritium-based) at the tips of the applied stick markers, which has developed a most attractive warm, uniform and pronounced patina. We chose to have the reference’s characteristic hands colour-matched for perfect consistency with the dial.
The automatic mechanical movement, Tudor caliber 1895 based on the Adolph Schild 1895, has been serviced by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs very well.
The vintage bracelet, a Rolex Oyster in steel with folded links, reference 7836, 382 end links, is in very fine condition.
