Launched in 1989 to replace the legendary reference 1016, which had been produced for 27 years, the Rolex Explorer 14270 marks a major evolution in the history of this watchmaking icon, which has been at the heart of Rolex’s adventure narrative since Sir Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay climbed Mount Everest in 1953. With its 36 mm stainless steel Oyster case, its scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, making it much more durable, water and dust resistant, its robust and extremely reliable automatic movement, its ultra-legible glossy black dial with white gold-rimmed hour markers and its iconic applied Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, this reference modernises the legendary Explorer while retaining its unique DNA.

Our example, produced and sold in the year 2000, is distinguished by its perfect condition, testifying to meticulous care throughout its existence. It is powered by the Rolex caliber 3000, a robust and precise automatic movement, certified as a superlative chronometer. Bearing a serial number beginning with P, it is part of the last production batch of the reference 14270, before the introduction of its successor, the 114270. Hodinkee has published an in-depth study of the reference 14270 and all of its variants: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/rolex-explorer-14270-everything-you-need-to-know.

An asset that will interest collectors and fans of so-called "neo-vintage" Rolex watches: our watch is, 25 years after its birth, still accompanied by all of its original accessories and documents: the original Rolex warranty document stating an initial sale on October 31, 2000, the green Rolex box with tree bark pattern outer-box bearing the reference 14270, the Rolex Explorer booklet, the Your Rolex Oyster booklet, the original green tag with the watch's individual serial number, and the red Rolex superlative chronometer seal.

A true timeless icon, the Rolex Explorer 14270 is a sought-after piece, both elegant and robust, perfect for everyday wear with both formal and casual outfits.
