This Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso known as the "Classique Medium" in steel, reference 251.84.10/252.8.08, initially sold in December 2004, is the neo-vintage interpretation of the iconic model created in 1931 for British polo players stationed in India.
The 23 x 38.5 mm rectangular steel case rests on the patented flip-up mechanism that has made this watch illustrious – initially an elegant protection for the glass, it has since become an aesthetic signature.
The silver dial is understated and legible with its black painted Arabic numerals, blue railway minute track, and blued steel sword hands. It is topped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre quartz movement that powers it has been serviced by one of our watchmakers and operates within the strictest tolerances.
We present this watch on a Jaeger-LeCoultre ostrich leather strap, complemented by a Jaeger-LeCoultre steel folding clasp.
The timeless Reverso "Classique Medium" in steel, understated and elegant, suitable for both men's and women's wrists!

Detailed description

The Reverso was created in the early 1930s, born from a practical need encountered on polo fields in colonial India. The original idea for this watch is attributed to César de Trey, a Swiss businessman who, after observing British officers complaining about the fragility of their watches during polo matches, proposed an ingenious solution: a watch whose dial could be reversed, thus protecting it from shocks.

De Trey approached Jacques-David LeCoultre, then head of the LeCoultre & Cie manufacture, to bring this vision to life. The concept was entrusted to René-Alfred Chauvot, a designer who patented the reversible case in 1931. The result was the Reverso, a watch that combined innovative engineering with aesthetic elegance. The reversible rectangular case immediately became a symbol of refined functionality, meeting the needs of polo players while embodying the Art Deco spirit of the era.

This specific model, initially sold in Italy in December 2004, retains the essential features of the very first Reverso watches, with a stainless steel case, understated and elegant dimensions, a clear dial with painted indices and blued steel sword hands.

The steel case, preserved in excellent condition, bears the reference number (252.8.08) and serial number (219xxxx) on the back, and houses the quartz movement that powers this watch.

The gold-colored Jaeger-LeCoultre ostrich leather strap perfectly complements this watch, in our opinion. Indeed, ostrich straps have long been Jaeger-LeCoultre's preferred choice for its Reverso collection – and rightly so: the contrast of textures and colors with the watch itself is perfect, both sporty and elegant. Our example comes with a steel folding clasp, also signed Jaeger-LeCoultre, and its original blue Jaeger-LeCoultre presentation box. An ideal example!

Condition

This Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso known as the "Classique Medium", reference 251.84.10/252.8.08, is preserved in excellent overall condition.
The rectangular steel case retains its original proportions and finishes, combining mirror/glossy polish for most of the watch, vertical satin/matte brushing on the case back, and sandblasting for the inside of the grooves on the lugs. The case pivots and rotates smoothly.
The markings on the case back – notably the reference and serial numbers – are perfectly legible and clear.
The winding crown still features the original "JL" logo, in excellent condition.
The original silver dial is in very good condition. No inscriptions are missing, and the blued scale is immaculate. The blued steel sword hands are perfectly preserved.
The camel ostrich leather strap, signed Jaeger-LeCoultre, is new, and complemented by a Jaeger-LeCoultre steel folding clasp, also in perfect condition.
