In 1926, Hans Wilsdorf unveiled the Oyster, widely regarded as the world’s first water-resistant wristwatch; in 1931, Rolex invented the “Perpetual” rotor, the first free-rotating oscillating weight of modern watchmaking. The Oyster Perpetual brings these two founding inventions together in their purest expression: no date, no complication – the essential Rolex. At the end of the 1980s, the mid-size line adopted a sapphire crystal and the caliber 2130, certified as a Superlative Chronometer; the extremely rare reference 67518 is perhaps its most precious version, with its 31 mm Oyster case in 18-carat yellow gold and fluted bezel.
The example we have the pleasure of offering, produced in 1990, is preserved in remarkable condition: never polished, close to new, with perfectly crisp hallmarks. Its blue sunburst dial, with applied gold baton hour markers and tritium dots, is flawless. The movement has been fully serviced by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs perfectly. We present this watch on a new black alligator leather strap hand-stitched by our artisan, complemented by the rare and sought-after original 18-carat gold Rolex pin buckle. It comes with a Rolex service box and our Steel Warranty Card.
With its 31 mm in gold on leather, a size once called “mid-size” and now perfectly in step with the times, this Oyster Perpetual is equally suited to both men’s and women’s wrists. A superb example of the essential Rolex, ideal for everyday wear as well as for the most elegant occasions.

Detailed description

In 1926, Hans Wilsdorf unveiled the Oyster, widely regarded as the world’s first water-resistant wristwatch. The following year, it accompanied the swimmer Mercedes Gleitze across the Channel: after more than ten hours in icy water, the watch emerged in perfect working order, and Wilsdorf put it on the front page of the Daily Mail – one of the first great advertising coups in watchmaking history. In 1931, Rolex invented the “Perpetual” rotor, the first free-rotating oscillating weight of modern watchmaking. The Oyster Perpetual brings these two founding inventions together in their purest expression: no date, no complication – the essential Rolex.

At the end of the 1980s, the mid-size line adopted its modern generation: a sapphire crystal and the caliber 2130, a movement introduced in 1983 and specifically designed for compact cases – 29 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 42-hour power reserve, Glucydur balance and Nivarox hairspring with Breguet overcoil – certified as a Superlative Chronometer. The extremely rare reference 67518 is perhaps its most precious version: a 31 mm Oyster case in 18-carat yellow gold (750 ‰) with screw-down crown, showcasing the fluted bezel – the signature of the dressiest Rolex models.

The example we have the pleasure of offering, produced in 1990 (serial E239xxx), is preserved in remarkable condition: never polished, close to new, it retains perfectly crisp hallmarks. Its blue sunburst dial, with applied gold baton hour markers and tritium dots (“T SWISS MADE T” at 6 o’clock), is flawless. The automatic mechanical movement has undergone a complete overhaul by one of our experienced watchmakers and runs within the strictest tolerances. We present this watch on a new black alligator leather strap hand-stitched by our artisan, complemented by the rare and sought-after original 18-carat gold Rolex pin buckle. It comes with a Rolex service box and our Steel Warranty Card.

The flutes of the bezel are sharp. The signed Rolex screw-down crown and the screw-down caseback are in perfect condition. The sapphire crystal is clean.
