Tudor Prince Oysterdate Ref. 7914 from 1957 – "Honeycomb" radium dial and roulette date

This superb Tudor Ref. 7914 in stainless steel features a rare embossed cream dial known as "honeycomb" or "Honeycomb", original radium dauphine hands, the Tudor rose sought after by collectors, faceted hour markers, a date window at 3 o’clock known as a "roulette" date in that the even-day numerals are red while the odd days are black, a fine anonymous vintage riveted expandable bracelet typical of the 1950s, and a perfectly working Tudor Auto-Prince cal. 395 self-winding mechanical movement.
The stainless steel case measures 34 mm in diameter. It is topped with a Plexiglas crystal fitted with a Cyclops, the magnifying lens patented by Rolex to make the date at 3 o’clock easier to read. The caseback is signed Montres Tudor S.A., and the original screw-down crown bears the Rolex logo and the "+" of the Swiss patent.
Honeycomb dials were extremely complex to manufacture and were abandoned in favour of simpler executions at the turn of the 1960s. The examples that have survived the decades are often damaged today, when they have not been repainted or poorly restored over the course of their lives. The dial on our watch is entirely original and incredibly well preserved.
In short, modern Tudors offer excellent value for money, but if you are looking for a vintage watch with a soul and a unique patina, this is the one! Entirely original and fitted with a dial that has developed a superb warm patina without deteriorating, it is quite simply the finest example of a Tudor 7914 we have ever seen – a collector’s dream.

In excellent overall condition, this Tudor Prince Oysterdate Ref. 7914 shows only a few superficial signs of use.
The steel case retains consistent brushed surfaces, and the engravings of the reference and serial numbers on the caseback are deep and crisp.
The superb "honeycomb"/Honeycomb dial has developed a unique patina, no inscription is faded, and the points of luminous material (radium-based) at the tips of the hour markers are intact and add a particular warmth to this watch, as do the hands.
The original "roulette" date wheel (alternating red and black days) is perfectly preserved.
The stainless steel riveted expandable bracelet is very "taut" and its springs work perfectly.
The self-winding mechanical movement runs very well, with a reading of ± 0 seconds/day and 265° in 4 positions on a professional timing machine.
The Plexiglas crystal has been replaced with a new one for perfect legibility.
