Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 3748/1G in White Gold, circa 1976 – Integrated Bracelet, Sigma Blue Dial

Patek Philippe introduced the reference 3748 in 1976, replacing the first model in the Golden Ellipse/Ellipse d'Or collection – the reference 3548, unveiled in 1967. The 3748 remained in production until 1994.
The deep blue sunburst/soleil gold dial of our example, known as a “Mark 3” variant, contrasts beautifully with the white of the case and bracelet. The indexes and hands are also in white gold, as revealed by the presence of two “σ” symbols (Sigma APRIOR) at 6 o’clock on the dial – a feature only present from 1971 to 1995.
The oval case without visible lugs, typical of the collection, houses the famous Patek Philippe caliber 215, a mechanical hand-wound movement, introduced in the 1970s and still in production to this day. The caliber 215 was the first movement to use the patented Gyromax balance, with a high beating speed of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Very thin, the movement that powers our watch has a high-quality finish, has been adjusted in 5 positions, and is decorated with the traditional Côtes de Genève.
The long integrated white gold bracelet, very comfortable to wear and of exemplary manufacturing quality, features a braided pattern whose matte appearance beautifully contrasts with the brilliance of the case. It boasts a jewelry clasp signed Patek Philippe and bearing a medallion engraved with the Calatrava Cross.
Patek Philippe produced considerably fewer Golden Ellipse models in white gold than in yellow gold.
